Problems Dialling Toll-Free Numbers

For the past two weeks or so I have had problems with my Cingular phone whenever I dial toll-free numbers. I usually get a message saying "your call did not go through, 025T." Same message regardless of the number I am dialling

I've tried more than a dozen toll-free numbers with the same result. I typically have to call back 3-5 times before I get through.

Any other numbers work fine. Anyone else having this problem? Cingular denies it exists.

BTW I live in the Houston area but I had a similar experience last week when traveling in New York.

Reply 1 : Problems Dialling Toll-Free Numbers

Forgot to mention, my wife has exactly the same problem on her phone.

Reply 2 : Problems Dialling Toll-Free Numbers

You may have heard that a weather system damaged some networks. Seems like it will take a few years for it to be rebuilt.

Reply 3 : Problems Dialling Toll-Free Numbers

When you own a toll free phone number, you can be able to block phone numbers that you like. It is one of the feature in a toll free phone number.

Reply 4 : Problems Dialling Toll-Free Numbers

I have this Toll Free number from Onesuite and I blocked pay phones from calling my Toll Free number. Calls from payphones have surcharge (with Onesuite its 55c) and that's additional cost for the TF number owner.

Reply 5 : Problems Dialling Toll-Free Numbers

Mostly toll free number get a huge number of incoming calls. Imagine its a free service, so many customers will be eager to use it to contact the business which will then result into having a busy signal.

Reply 6 : Problems Dialling Toll-Free Numbers

Most business Toll Free numbers are connected to PBX system or similar system so you are not supposed to get a busy signal. Even if there's no one available to answer your call, you will just put on hold but PBX will still answer your call.

Reply 7 : Problems Dialling Toll-Free Numbers

That is true. Phone systems are so reliable that you won't even need a live operator to manage incoming calls. Local or 1 800 number service usually have call management features like call forwarding, call transfer, call routing, caller ID, call controller, call conference, internet fax and voicemail. If a call is unattended or unanswered it will either be rerouted or forwarded to a voicemail or fax. This way no calls are not missed.

Reply 8 : Problems Dialling Toll-Free Numbers

Clearly technology is on our side...at least to make life easier for most of us but making the world smaller too.

Reply 9 : Problems Dialling Toll-Free Numbers

Boston, MA I have been receiving reports from my customers and others who are AT&T Wireless subscribers that when they dial any NON-AT&T Toll Free Number they receive a dead air message and the call can not be completed. Has anyone received any complaints today ??

Reply 1 : samsung sch r351 pc drivers?????

I have had problems with this to. Samsung doesn't have the Samsung PC Studio under the R351. Only a manual which is still in Spanish even though it says it's in English. Windows 7 says that Samsung doesn't support this phone any more or something like that. I was able to get my computer to charge it via the usb link but that was about it. There could be another program that might be able to connect to the phone. If I get anything to work, I'll let you know.

Reply 2 : samsung sch r351 pc drivers?????

I had hours of fun with this one too
Just go to Tools in the Samsung
with your USB cable connected
and click on 6.Mass Storage.
It will automatically install needed drivers
and Bob's Your Uncle

Reply 3 : samsung sch r351 pc drivers?????

I can't really follow your directions. Which samsung studio are you using?

Reply 4 : samsung sch r351 pc drivers?????

ok... to confirm... what he was saying is that you must connect the phone to the computer. it should come up with found new hardware(with win xp). close that. on your phone, press the centre button. go to tools/settings, then tools. then press "5. Mass Storage". choose the option "connect to pc" and your computer should pick it up as a mass storage device. if you have the microsd card installed, it should also pick up the mmc storage device. once everything is done installing, go to my computer, open up the removable drive assigned to the phone, click on the folder "My_Music" and place your music in there. If your phone doesnt have it (you dont have any music downloaded) create the folder "MY_MUSIC" and it should help speed things up.

NOW bobs your uncle

All you have to do is put the Micro sd cared in the phone connect the cable and bam you are connected! Do not change USB mas storage name,, just put the card in ....

CDMA+GSM combination phone

Hey guys

I just heard Verizon had came out with a new quad band phone that can do CDMA and GSM, its a Samsung A790. While in the US it will use Verizon's CDMA network while roaming outside it will be on Verizon's partner Vodafone's GSM network. Until now i have not heard of a phone that can do both GSM and CDMA. Does anyone know of any other phone that can do GSM and CDMA from Moto, Nokia, Sony? I am not a big fan of the usual tacky Verizon offering brands such as Samsung, LG, Kyocera or Audiovox!

Reply 1 : CDMA+GSM combination phone

As far as I know this is the first such phone. It is 'digital only' CDMA (no analog) while in USA. I saw it in the Verizon store, but not on their web site yet.

Reply 2 : CDMA+GSM combination phone

I heard about it too. These phones are supposed to be for world travelers, where it'll use CDMA in the USA, but in other countries, especially in Europe, use GSM. But I wonder if these phones will be used to eliminate analog by allowing roaming when the phone can't detect a CDMA signal.

Reply 3 : CDMA+GSM combination phone

just did search on motorola.com they just came out with a cdma+gsm fone of their own. the motorola a840 look sweet kinda like a v710 look like same spec except the cdma+gsm part, donno if its bluetooth or not, cant imagine they coming out with a high end fone like this with no bluetooth hmmm

i think these cdma+gsm fone in the US are basically design especially for verizon they are the only major provider who else use cdma.

Reply 4 : CDMA+GSM combination phone

> i think these cdma+gsm fone in the US are basically > design especially for verizon they are the only > major provider who else use cdma

Sprint, US Cellular, Cricket, and Alltel are ones that come to my mind that use CDMA.
T-Mobile, Cingular, AT&T (will be Cingular at the end of the year), Einstein, and Centennial Wireless use GSM, and Centennial just started using GSM.
Nextel is supposed to come out with a phone that will also have GSM in it too, besides their proprietary digital standard, IDEN.

Reply 5 : CDMA+GSM combination phone

Thanks for the info. I've been waiting for this combination of CDMA & GSM, in one unit, for a long time. Thing is I don't like Samsung Cell Phones. Having had two diffrent models. SCH N370 & SPH N400. Both models had FLAKEY software, although the phones look good physically. The A840, which I've never heard of until now, is a Motorola phone, and I've always liked Moitorola phones back to the Micro Tacf and the Star Tac.

Reply 6 : CDMA+GSM combination phone

i saw the specs on the manual of the nokia 6630 and it has global roaming with WCDMA and EGSM 900/1800/1900 networks. i still wonder though if i need the fourth band (850 frequency that is) as it seems its only for the US (in order to get wider coverage). my main conern is in japan and korea. i get no signal there with my tri-band that has no CDMA. with the nokia 6630 they say i can. i still have to find a quad band with CDMA though. anyone know?

Reply 7 : CDMA+GSM combination phone

I don't have any specific models or time frame, but I did verify with a local Verizon store that there will be at least one additional model coming soon. I also learned that the phone will switch to GSM domestically if no CDMA coverage is available.

Reply 8 : CDMA+GSM combination phone

If that phone automatically switches to GSM when no CDMA coverage is available, then people can expect roaming charges as Verizon Wireless only has roaming agreements with select CDMA carriers, mainly US Cellular & Alltel, which come off the top of my head. I don't think Verizon & Sprint have roaming agreements as when I traveled into sw Michigan around Benton Harbor & Niles, Sprint has coverage around there, but Alltel picks up any calls I get. But back to the subject, I believe the other phone that'll come out will rarely switch to GSM as there's more CDMA coverage in the USA than with GSM. The old Voicestream brought GSM to the USA, but it took AT&T & Cingular to switch and try to build up their networks based on GSM.

Reply 9 : CDMA+GSM combination phone

I agree that the phone would rarely switch to GSM while in the United States. My only point is that in an area that has absolutely no CDMA or Analog coverage, the phone has a 3rd alternative (vs. no coverage at all). AT&T and Cingular had a similar phone that switched between GSM, Analog and TDMA but those phones are no longer available.

Reply 10 : CDMA+GSM combination phone

I have been using the HTC TouchPro II for a year now. It operates on my Sprint CDMA network when I'm in the USA, and I use it in GSM mode with its own (different) phone number on the BTL network when in Belize.

Samsung Focus Calendar

When placing an appointment on my calendar, I can ask for a reminder between 0 and 60 minutes, 18 hours, 1 day, or 1 week.

Is there a way to make changes to the reminder, i.e., set it to 3 or 4 hours? Sometimes I need to be reminded 4 hours in advance in order to be on time. It appears there is no way to make a change in settings so I fear the times are hard coded.

BlackBerry use in India.

Hi All,

I am planning to get a BlackBerry 8320 from a friend in US. I plan to use it in India with the local CDMA or GSM networks. I wanted to know if I will be able to use the local SIM Cards of India in the BlackBerry 8320 from US. And if not then some way to help me use the same in India. Please Help.

Regards,
Rahul

Reply 1 : BlackBerry use in India.

You can use any GSM BlackBerry models from the US in India by simply changing the SIM, so long as they are unlocked in the first place. You can not however use most CDMA BlackBerry models from the US in India as CDMA phones in the US do not have a SIM card, all the carrier information is built into the phone and is almost impossible for end users to change it. Both CDMA networks in the US, Verizon and Sprint offers some BlackBerry models branded as World Phone. These phones support both CDMA (US only) and GSM (always unlocked, and for use on networks outside of the US only). You can use any SIM card with these phones.

If you are considering buying a BlackBerry second hand, make sure you confirm with the seller that the BlackBerry has been deactivated by the previous owner. It is not possible to activate BlackBerry services on the phone until it has been deactivated by the previous owner.

Reply 2 : BlackBerry use in India.

u can use it...
will u be using 'unlocked' handset without BB services?
and BB phone minus the BB service is as good as a paper weight.
only serious users should go for it... not recommended for the 'typical' indian user who changes his handset every few months...
monthly charges Rs.899/-(plus Tax that is there in the monthly bill) OR one time annual charges Rs.6999/-(inclusive of Tax; non refundable if you terminate services)
sincere advice: don't go for it if you want it for the hype or it is the 'in-thing'
IF really serious user: go for 8520 the new curve with optical touch pad in place of scroll ball....around Rs. 16,000/-
if you can afford: go for the BOLD(BB bold 9000) Best hand set ever.
Do not even think about CDMA operators. Absolute NO NO.
Happy BB'ing!

Reply 3 : BlackBerry use in India.

I am actually getting a BB from a friend in US. He uses the handset with AT&T service. I dont know any other details. How will I unlock the BB once i get it in India?? And are there any specific BBs that can work in India?? And what are BlackBerry services??

Can you please clarify a bit. It will be of great help.

Reply 4 : BlackBerry use in India.

If you friend in the US bought that phone on contract with AT&T and the contract has already ended. He can get an unlocking code for free by calling AT&T. Otherwise you can obtain an unlocking code either from AT&T or some third party for around $10 ~ $20 US dollars. There are unlocking tools available you can download online to unlock the phone yourself if you are confident.

CDMA BlackBerrys always have a model number ending with 30, such as the 8330, 9530 and 8530. But all AT&T BlackBerrys will be GSM models.

Reply 5 : BlackBerry use in India.

if ur 8320 is unlocked one, At present BSNL has blackberry service with 3G, but i think u need BB like Bold to use 3G, but at location without 3G the service falls back to EDGE/GPRS
BSNL can be called Call Toll-free on 1800 1801 505. I could also get some info from http://bsnl.co.in/service/blackberry/index.html

Who to buy cell phone plan from online?

I know wirefly/inphonic are not the places to buy. Is letstalk.com or anyone else any better? I want a decent phone, preferrably from T-Mobile. Am I safer to just buy directly from the T-Mobile store??

Reply 1 : Who to buy cell phone plan from online?

got mine from tigerdirect, it was pretty quick...letstalk.com offers pretty much the same thing, never buy from the local mall...it's a rip off...so what do you planna' get?

Reply 2 : Who to buy cell phone plan from online?

I'd love to get a good, free phone, with online rebates...no mail-in rebates that never show.

Reply 3 : Who to buy cell phone plan from online?

I was considering them, but have never purchased online. I just think it is a rip-off to have to pay my existing carrier for a phone they will give a NEW customer free.

IS the samsung galaxy s designed to short circuit?

I have been studying the build of the samsung galaxy s. It seems like if the phone falls into any amount of water, it is bound to short circuit. The opening in the back for the speakers is the biggest flaw. We all know samsung won't fix a phone that comes in touch with water. Is my theory good?

Reply 1 : IS the samsung galaxy s designed to short circuit?

Unless a phone is designated as weather resistant, why would any manufacturer service the device if it was water damaged?? Your question makes absolutely no sense.

Reply 2 : IS the samsung galaxy s designed to short circuit?

But isn't it unfair for mobile companies to not repair phones which are damaged due to a few drops of water contact? In fact, they won't even look if the water indicators are positive these days. These phones cost so much money but they're not designed to handle simple things like taking a little rain.

Reply 3 : IS the samsung galaxy s designed to short circuit?

It would be no different if you accidentally poured water into the keyboard of a laptop computer or any other electronic device. As I mentioned, unless the device is sold as weather proof such exposure isn't warrantied.

Reply 4 : IS the samsung galaxy s designed to short circuit?

but isn't the body over-exposed when there is an opening at the bottom ( like the speakers in this case)

Reply 5 : IS the samsung galaxy s designed to short circuit?

Expand it to include all non-waterproof units by all makers.

Not much new here and easy to explain. Since most of us do not need waterproof units we can avoid the higher costs.

Autostart

Is there a feature/program/app/setting that will control what autostarts?

Reply 1 : Autostart

That controls what autostart when you boot your phone?

Assuming that what your asking I have never seen an app that is 100% effective at this, if your rooted its really simple to do.

For the not rooted users you can check out here:

http://www.androidzoom.com/android_applications/disable%20autostart

or just search the market for "startup manager"

I avoid Auto Task killers, just because they kill your battery life.

You can also do it manually by entering settings>Application settings>Running services> select the service to end and end it, however it will restart when you reboot.

Windows Mobile Problem

I'm having problems with two windows mobile devices. My device is a Dell Axim X5 and my wife's is a Ipaq 2215. Both have Windows Mobile 2003. The problem is when we try to send mail with pocket outlook it gets delivered to the drafts folder with an "Invalid message recipients" error.

I found this error to be common but no one seems to have the answer. If I go to the drafts folder and open the message and select the address I see an extra ; at the end of the address for some reason. If I remove that ; it sends.

Anyone know what I can do to fix this problem? It is very annoying as we have to send the message, let it reject, edit and then send again.

Thanks in advance.

How to read BlackBerry MEP without cable or computer?

If you want to know the trick of reading BB MEP, let me know at info@OnlyFone.com
I'll provide you the instruction. Tnx

Curve not syncing to Google calendar

Up until recently my Curve 8330 did sync with the Google calendar. For the past 2 weeks, even with removing the battery and putting it back in, the sync is not happening. The Curve tells me "nothing has changed" when it actually has on the computer calendar. Any thoughts? Is it time to get a new phone?

Sync'ing my BB with my Thunderbird calendar and Contacts

Hey all, If anyone ever figures out how to directly sync a Blackberry Curve to Thunderbird w/Lightning WITHOUT using Google, I will gladly pay money for the answer.

I am still not ready to put my contacts "on the cloud" because I don't think it is fair to everyone in my contact list to have their information exposed on the Internet where some hacker or even a tech can access their information.

Patiently waiting and have a great day!

buying new cell phone online

i just purchased a samsung fascinate online and the description is that it is brand new. the seller was throwing in an extra battery and 32 gb memory card. all that sounded good until i just received an email from the seller stating that he shipped it and that he installed and formatted the memory card for me. maybe he was trying to be helpful, but i find it annoying that he was fiddling around with what is supposed to be a brand new phone.

my question is could he have installed something that will compromise my security in anyway? like a key logger or something? i've never had a smart phone so i don't know what can run on them. what can i do to tell if anything was installed on it?

thanks.

looking for confirmation - will this work?

Hello mine name is Bob, I live in Ontario Canada.
I am probobly last person (not counting mine wife) on "Mother Earth" that is sharing one(1)cell telephone "pay as you go" between my self and my wife - because of cost.
We are getting older, sicker... need to stay in contact, so we made decision to "up grade" and purchase two new phones keeping same pay as you go system.
I need expert advise if I purchase two(2) the "smart phones" will those phones give me connection trough the internet (if available like air ports, hotels - we do travel a lot to USA and Europe)to Skype so I could call any body any where? of course I do understand I need to purchase credit from Skype.
Please if any body have any ideas if this set up will work or some other set up?, thank you very much for your time , very much any suggestions are appreciated.

Can someone help me pick out a phone/service?

I've been on AT&T for a long time, even back when it was Cingular. I got an iPhone just under two years ago and discovered tethering soon after. I live in a rural area where broadband is not available, so I depend on tethering for internet. I'm not in an AT&T 3G area and the service keeps getting slower and slower. It's horrible during peak hours. I canceled my service and need to find a replacement by the end of my billing cycle - a couple weeks away.

My options are Verizon, Sprint, and Virgin Mobile. Verizon has the best coverage, and 3G is at my house. Sprint also has 3G at my house and covers the places I'm usually at, but I know other area have sparse coverage. I'm pretty sure I can tether for free with android phones on both services. Both have contracts. Verizon is $90/month plus tax, Sprint is $80/month plus tax (for low minutes, unlimited text, unlimited internet). Virgin is only... $25 for basically the same service, just lower minutes that I doubt I'd go over. No contract. Same coverage as Sprint. But I'm not so sure about tethering. There are ways to do it, but at $25 a month and no contract I'd imagine they would be quick to cut your service for using much bandwidth.

Any advice?

Audio/music speed ramping tool?

I was hoping somebody could point me in the direction of a good (hopefully free) audio mixing/editing tool to ramp the speed of a track.

I am looking to take one music track (uptempo) have it play a few seconds, then ramp the speed down to blend with another track, cross-fading it out so that only track 2 can be heard.

I am a Video Editor and am trying to incorporate this cool audio effect in my project with 2 tracks I have chosen. I have the Adobe Master Collection, but Audition can't do this (nor can Premiere or After Effects, even though they can do it with video).

I am hoping for a free solution, but will definitely take all suggestions (the easier the better) for how to accomplish this.

Thanks to anyone that can help.
Aza
